Sustainable Lifestyle

Daily writing prompt
Are there things you try to practice daily to live a more sustainable lifestyle?

When I first had a look at today’s WordPress prompt, my immediate thought was “What the hell do they mean by a sustainable lifestyle?”

Sustainable in that the amount of time I spend on this little blue planet increases by 10 years more than it was supposed to if I happened to do certain things? Or things I may practice and incorporate into my daily goings about that are better for the environment? What about other choices – although not sure what they are at the moment.

All of this makes me look like a neanderthal seeing as I was a bit confused as to what the prompt was actually zeroing in on. So, a couple of quick searches with the “Keeper of all knowledge – Google”, yield a couple of results.

Another one suggested this.

Alrighty then – now I see where they’re coming from.

Around our house one thing we’re big on is chemicals – and what I mean is NOT USING CHEMICALS.

All of our cleaning, dishwashing, laundry etc is done with all-natural products. I had to move away from using commercial-grade soap(all familiar brands) as it extensively dried out my skin. For years I used locally produced bee-pollen soap which worked quite well. Now I use a micro-fibre body cloth in the shower. Works super.

We also walk as much as we can. Given our community is quite small, we can walk pretty much anywhere. Which we do. Great exercise and saves on driving the car short distances.

In fact, looking at the enclosed graphic, in our house we do all of those things. We even have reusable straws in our car in the event we stop and buy a take-out drink when we’re out and about.

All that we do shouldn’t be considered nor is it onerous in any way that detracts from one’s lifestyle. They’re all pretty simple that, honestly you don’t think about anymore. They become part of our day-to-day living. We try to minimize the amount of garbage we generate within our house. Some garbage days it’s half a bag, other days a full bag. But, we’re trying.

Even reducing car trips through walking while helping the environment, is also helping our heart and body through more exercise. A good thing all around.

I don’t have any answers that can add the the sustainable living question. But, if we all – that is each one of us – do our bit – even if it seems only like a tiny bit ……we’ll all be in a better place.

–as always with love–
