Another Sunshine Blogger Award!

With the busyness of the holiday season, getting to respond to these nominations have taken somewhat of a back seat. But, now with holiday season’s celebrations behind us, I’m trying to get caught up with a few of these things.

Stacy Alderman at Quirky, Confused and Curvy(Musings of The Emotionally Complicated)blog nominated me for my fourth Sunshine Blogger Award. Thank again Stacy for the nomination. An incredible feeling today as much as it was when I read that you had nominated me.

For those wondering what all this means, the Sunshine Blogger Award is given by bloggers, to other bloggers, who inspire creativity and positivity within the blogging community!

The Sunshine Blogger Award is a great way to recognize old and new bloggers and connect to others within your niche or the blogging world as a whole. It also means you spread the word about writers you love, with your readers! So, it’s a win-win for all involved, so lets spread the love and a little bit of sunshine!!

Before going any further, take the time right now to check Quirky, Confused and Curvy blog out. Well worth the time to head on over and check out what Stacy has to say.

Thank you, Stacy.

The Sunshine Blogger Award has some rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link back to their blog so others can find them.
  • Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated you.
  • Nominate 11 other bloggers and ask them 11 new questions.
  • Notify the nominees about it by commenting on one of their blog posts.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo on your post and/or your blog site.

Here are Stacy’s questions:

How did you come up with the name for your blog?

It came out of our hiking and outdoor adventures, which is why I started blogging in the first place. We often said and continue to say today when we’re out hiking, “that perhaps if we go just a bit further”, we might find finding even more exciting than what we’ve seen so far.” We found that “justabitfurther” is as applicable to hiking as it is to life and living.

Tell us about your favourite vacation ever

Two of them rate right near the top.

Our 25th anniversary trip to Banff and the mountains in western Canada. But, topping the list I think is our first trip to Prince Edward Island back in June 2017. That trip birthed the desire to retire on Prince Edward Island. For Lynn during that trip staying at “Dalvay By The Sea” a national historic site was the highlight for her.

Read any good books lately?

Currently reading a national bestseller in Canada called “Canoe Country – The Making of Canada.” It tells in vivid detail how the simple canoe was instrumental in making Canada the country that we are.

What is one fact about yourself that people always have a hard time believing?

That I was a teacher. But, once people get to know me, they often say, “okay, now I understand the teaching gig.”

What’s the last thing you bought for yourself?

Tough one again. Other than groceries today, I’m thinking craft beer from the local liquor store. Don’t drink much, but do like craft beers. I tend to buy them, based on what the graphics are on the can or bottle. Not scientific, but it works for me though.

Do you have a favourite blog post you wrote or favourite creative “thing” you’ve done? (painting, knitting, running a marathon, etc).

It might be this post called “Hiding in Plain Site – Valuing Those We Love.”

I think the message is so relevant to all of us. Not to take those relationships we have, whether it be a spouse, family or friends for granted. What may be here today, is no guarantee that the relationship will be there tomorrow.

What’s your earliest memory?

Wow, tough one. Seeing as I can barely remember last week. Let me see? I do remember bits and parts of being in kindergarten and also of visiting my grandparent’s who lived about a block away from our family home growing up. Don’t remember any details though.

What was your first job?

The very first job I had was delivering newspapers when I was in public school around the grade 7 or 8 level. The first job after college was working as a Civil Engineering Technologist for a small engineering firm.

Mountains or oceans?

Both. Sorry, can’t choose. Mountains for the majesty and climbing, while oceans for the serenity and awe-inspiring vastness.

Goals for 2019?

I would like to continue to develop my writing and blogging skills further. 2018 was a great year for that, but I’d like to work harder on them if possible. In addition, would like to focus more on the publishing end of things.

In terms of the outdoors, we would like to return to Prince Edward Island in late June and early July for more fun and adventures. As well, I think at times we need to be a bit more focused and strategic in terms of heading out on adventures on my days off.

Have you always wanted to be a blogger/writer or is it something you stumbled upon?

Stumbled upon it. Hated writing and/or creative writing in school. But, I always was and still are today a voracious reader. Started blogging as a way to record our outdoor adventures. Things have evolved blogging since then. Now, it is something I love doing. So, go figure?

Unfortunately, time at the moment doesn’t give me the latitude I need to nominate a full complement of 11 bloggers. To the “blogging police” I give my humblest apology. But, if you’re reading this, hell, feel free to nominate yourself and pass it award on to even more well deserving bloggers out there.

Here are my eleven questions for these exceptional bloggers to tackle.

  1. Why did you get into or what motivated you to start blogging?

Again, a big shout out to Stacy for nominating me for The Sunshine Blogger Award. There are so many talented bloggers out there, that even to be considered and recognized by others in the blogging world is truly an honour.
